South Yorkshire Core Child Protection Procedures

The South Yorkshire Core Procedures are based on the national guidance contained in 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' published in 2006 by HM Government and provide a framework within which agencies and professionals at a local level, work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

They apply to children and young people below the age of eighteen.

The Core Procedures cover:

  • Principles underpinning work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children

  • Significant Harm: the impact of abuse and neglect

  • Information sharing and confidentiality

  • Children who require a child protection plan

  • Referring concerns to the Children’s Social Care department or the police

  • Children’s Social care or police action following a referral

  • The Child Protection Conference System

  • Serious Case Reviews

  • Comments and complaints about the operation of these procedures

  • Appendix 1. Indicators of abuse

  • Appendix 2. Local contact information

  • Appendix 3. Protocol for joint child protection enquiries/investigations

  • References and links

If you have any comments about the procedures please bring them to the attention of the Doncaster Safeguarding Children Board by emailing dscb@doncasterpct.nhs.uk or telephoning 01302 566791 so that we can take them into account when the procedures are subject to review.
