Aims and Objectives

This is a two day Intermediate Level course suitable for those who are working with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse and/or the parents and caregivers of those young people.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training participants will:

  • Have a greater understanding of how sexual abuse impacts on the life of the child and their parents/caregivers

  • Have increased knowledge of theoretical models and techniques which will assist their understanding of the child's behaviour

  • Have explored communication techniques which assist to improve their relationships with children and families

  • Know where to obtain specialised services that help individuals recover from sexual abuse and what those services offer.

Target Group

Practitioners and Managers who work directly with children who have suffered sexual abuse or with adults who are parents/caregivers of sexually abused children and young people.

Please note: This course is targeted at those who are working with young people who have disclosed abuse and where Children's Social Care and police investigations have been completed.
