Aims and Objectives

This half day course uses 'Solution Focused' techniques to increase co-operation and promote partnership working with parents, young people, children and families. A 'Signs of Safety' model for safeguarding children is examined which offers an alternative to the traditional methods of risk assessment and provides a useful assessment tool, which is used to demonstrate how to increase partnership working while maintaining a clear focus on the safety of the child.

  • To introduce participants to Solution Focused techniques in order to build client co-operation and partnership.

  • To introduce the Signs of Safety Approach as an alternative to traditional risk assessment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training participants will:

  • Have an understanding of Solution Focused intervention and will have practiced a number of techniques

  • Have an understanding of the Signs of Safety Approach as an alternative to risk assessment and a means of promoting partnership.

Target Group

This course will be useful to members of staff from a wide range of services, but especially those who are interested in looking at alternative approaches to helping people.
