Introduction

All maintained schools in Doncaster fully recognises their responsibility under Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to have arrangements about safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.

Through their day-to-day contact with pupils and direct work with families’ staff at the school have a crucial role to play in noticing indicators of possible abuse or neglect and referring them to Children and Young People’s Services (C&YPS).

The school's safeguarding policy sets out how the school’s governing body discharges its statutory responsibilities relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children who are pupils at the school and includes the school:

  • having a child protection policy and procedures in place

  • operating safe recruitment procedures and making sure all appropriate checks are carried out on new staff and volunteers

  • has procedures for dealing with allegations of abuse against members of staff and volunteers

  • has a senior member of the school’s leadership team who is designated to take lead responsibility for dealing with child protection issues

  • the Governing Body remedies any deficiencies or weaknesses in regard to child protection arrangements

  • a member of the Governing Body is nominated to be responsible for liaising with the Local Authority and/or partner agencies in the event of allegations of abuse being
    made against the head teacher

  • the Governing Body reviews its policies and procedures annually and provides information to the Local Authority about them.
